Utility pits — proposed development area
Intended use case: general-purpose underground access pits for shared trenching, isolation valve access and minor multi-authority service points.
What we need to validate
- Loading class requirements (pedestrian, light vehicle, trafficable)
- Lid and frame interchangeability
- Corrosion resistance for long buried service life
- Dimensional tolerances
What partner feedback would help confirm
Whether a general-purpose pit concept — rather than a carrier-specific one — actually matches how your projects currently procure these pits, and which load classes you most commonly need.
Communications pits — proposed development area
Intended use case: fibre and copper joint/access pits for telecommunications networks, typically installed in footpaths and verges.
What we need to validate
- Carrier-specific pit dimensions and cover class
- Duct entry configuration
- Lifting arrangements
- Durability against moisture ingress
What partner feedback would help confirm
Which carrier specifications (for example, NBN Co or Telstra practice) matter most in your work, and whether a field trial would be of interest once a prototype exists.
Electrical pits — proposed development area
Intended use case: low-voltage cable joint pits and streetlighting feeder pits for underground electrical reticulation.
What we need to validate
- Earthing and bonding provisions
- Cover load rating by install location
- Cable entry alignment
- Durability in wet or saline ground conditions
What partner feedback would help confirm
Which network operator specifications we should be designing toward from the outset, and which load classes and site conditions are most common in your work.
Service plinths — proposed development area
Intended use case: mounting plinths for kiosk substations and pillar enclosures, with transformer and switchgear plinths as a longer-term concept.
What we need to validate
- Point loads from equipment footings
- Level and flatness tolerance
- Lifting and handling requirements
- Cast-in anchor provisions
What partner feedback would help confirm
Exact load and mounting specifications for your equipment, and whether a kiosk/pillar-scale plinth or a full transformer-scale plinth is the more useful first concept to develop.
Culverts and headwalls — future capability
Subject to moulds, testing, approvals and demand. Intended use case: drainage culverts and headwalls for road and rural drainage crossings.
What we need to validate
- Structural loading for trafficable road conditions
- Hydraulic capacity requirements (set by project civil design, not by us)
- Joint sealing and durability
- Heavy lifting and handling logistics
What partner feedback would help confirm
Whether there is enough demand in this region to justify the mould and capacity investment this category would need before any design work begins.
